The Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze, brings to the attention of the public that a viral video is currently circulating on social networks, particularly WhatsApp and Facebook, announcing the alleged opening of a cryptocurrency investment program and promising exceptional financial returns within a few hours.
The Minister of Finance formally denounces this video, which is a crude fabrication where hackers fraudulently use the Digital Business Africa platform and a video of the Minister of Finance to give credibility to their dirty work. The Minister of Finance warns the population against this type of scam maneuver, which is becoming increasingly frequent in our country. In this regard, it should be remembered that any investment involves risk and that no high return can be guaranteed in the short term without significant risk-taking. Offers promising to multiply capital in a few hours or days are typical warning signs of financial fraud.
The general public and social media users in particular are therefore invited to exercise caution, vigilance, and discernment when faced with such offers, especially when they circulate on social networks or are accompanied by personal messaging numbers. Before engaging in any investment project, it is strongly recommended to carry out preliminary verifications with the competent institutions, namely:
- ●
the Ministry of Finance (MINFI) - ●
The Bank of Central African States (BEAC) - ●
the Financial Market Supervisory Commission of Central Africa (COSUMAF) - ●
the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF)
These structures are authorized to supervise, authorize, and regulate investment operations and financial entities operating in Cameroon, and to combat financial crime.
The Minister of Finance, while reaffirming the Government’s commitment to promoting a responsible financial culture and protecting Cameroonian savers against abusive and illegal practices, invites anyone who has received or identified this type of fraudulent message to report it immediately to the authorities, in order to contribute to the fight against financial scams and cybercrime.
